Sponsoring
Education is neither free nor universal in Uganda but is essential to enable communities to lift themselves out of poverty, particularly as the resources of the rainforest are no longer available due to its protected status.
‘Bwindi Orphans Development Centre’ struggles to provide food, shelter, medical care and education for over 160 children. It is not always possible to pay school fees for all of the children, and those lucky enough to attend high school must walk 60km each day unless they have a sponsor to pay their boarding fees.
The orphanage runs a sponsor programme to enable more children to complete their education. Until now most sponsors have been visiting tourists and communication difficulties combined with high bank transfer charges have meant that many children lose their sponsor after the first year. We aim to assist with overcoming these difficulties and are currently working with the orphanage management to organise a system to ensure that sponsors receive regular updates about the students.
We can also reduce the additional cost of bank charges (currently for UK sponsors only) by combining payments.

You can also assist the orphanage by contributing to their staff costs.
